Worms For Axies, Stingrays, Bearded Dragons & Other Live Pets
Premium Feeding Worms for Reptiles, Amphibians & Fish
African Night Crawlers are one of the best live foods available for many pets, including:
- Axolotls (Axies)
- Freshwater Stingrays
- Bearded Dragons
- Large Tropical Fish
- Turtles
- Water Dragons
- Other insect and worm-eating pets
These large, nutritious worms are highly active, easy to digest, and readily accepted by many animals.
Why Choose African Night Crawlers?
African Night Crawlers are a specialised composting worm species, but they are very different from the small compost worms commonly used in worm farms.
Benefits
✔ Does not exude a foul/garlicky smell when upset (like the predatory response of red worms/E. feitda)
✔ Larger size for easier feeding
✔ High nutritional value
✔ Active movement attracts feeding responses
✔ Suitable for a wide range of pets
✔ Easy to keep alive when stored correctly
Why Not Use Ordinary Compost Worms?
Many standard compost worms are small and can release a strong-smelling defensive liquid when disturbed.
African Night Crawlers are generally larger, cleaner to handle, and better suited for feeding larger pets.

How Big Are the Worms?
Our African Night Crawlers are supplied at feeding size.
Typical Size
- Usually 7–10 cm long
- Often 10–15 cm long
- Approximately 5–7 mm thick near the head
By comparison, common compost worms are often only:
- 2–4 cm long
- 1–2 mm thick
The larger size makes African Night Crawlers much easier to feed to larger pets and aquatic animals.
Keeping Your Worms Alive
For best results, keep your worms in a simple worm bucket or storage container.
Maintaining the correct temperature will help keep your worms healthy and active.
A thermometer is highly recommended and can help you monitor conditions during hot or cold weather.
Feeding Tips from Customers
Before Feeding
Many customers recommend rinsing worms in a small amount of aquarium water in a cup, or rinse using properly dechlorinated water before feeding.
Why Many Axolotl Owners Prefer Worms
Compared with pellets:
- Worms are natural foods for many of these pets
- Worms are HIGH VALUE nutrition
- You can easily see which animals have eaten.
- Each animal receives a visible feed.
- Worms are usually consumed whole.
- Less uneaten food remains in the water.
- Water quality is often easier to maintain.
Several experienced breeders have reported that one appropriately sized worm per day can provide a complete diet for many adult axolotls, similar to the foods they would naturally consume in the wild.
