Kids Activity – Worm Crawling On A Leaf
Make-and-Take Worm & Leaf Craft Activity for Early Learners, Schools, OSHC, Festivals & Events
What Children Do in This Activity:
A wiggly craft activity with movement, creativity, and an educational twist!
Crawling Worm On A Leaf invites children to create their own colourful paper leaf and pair it with a crawling pipe-cleaner worm. Through decorating, crafting, and imaginative play, children discover how worms move through nature and why fallen leaves are an important part of healthy ecosystems.
As children guide their worms across their handmade leaves, they begin exploring simple concepts about decomposition, composting, and how nature recycles organic materials.
Each child takes home their unique worm and leaf creation as a fun reminder of their learning experience.

What Every Incursion Includes

All incursions are designed to make science, sustainability, and nature fun, engaging, and memorable for children.
Every session is presented by Brian “The Worm Man” Donaldson and includes all materials, equipment, and resources required for the activity.
Children experience far more than a simple craft session. They take part in hands-on learning that includes live worms, worm eggs, and composting insects, helping them connect directly with real soil ecosystems.
Through storytelling, large visual displays, fascinating facts, and interactive discussion, Brian guides children through the world of worms, composting, and waste reduction, showing how small everyday actions can make a big environmental difference.
Each program encourages active participation, curiosity, and exploration, giving children plenty of opportunities to ask questions and engage with the learning.
Activities are adaptable to suit different ages, learning levels, and group sizes. Schools and learning centres also receive printed educator resources on the day to support continued learning beyond the session.n.
Educational Value
This activity helps children understand that nature has its own recycling system.
Through craft, movement, and hands-on discovery, children learn how worms help break down leaves and organic materials, returning nutrients to the soil and supporting healthy ecosystems.
By connecting creativity with real-life environmental concepts, children gain a greater appreciation for the important role worms play in gardens, composting systems, and the natural world.
The experience encourages curiosity, environmental awareness, and early science learning in an engaging and age-appropriate way.
