Hi there !
Seeing as you are on this page, you must have done an activity with us where you made a mini worm farm to take home with worms.
Well done ! You have started your journey to help the environment by reducing waste !
Remember, Olly says ” To help reduce waste, learn to: Avoid, Reduce, Reuse, Repair, Recycle, & only then Dispose.”
After having a look at the tips here, you might want to have a quick look at the “normal” composting worm instructions.
An adult may have to read them with you. Olly says “That’s a great way to teach adults about reducing waste !”

Tips For Your Mini Worm Farm
Feeding:
Remember, worms only eat a little bit each week.
If you feed them too much they may suffer.
Feed them something very small and you can feed more often.
Try feeding them about a tablespoon of food the first weekend.
Feed something soft and easy for them to eat like cooked vegetables left over from your dinner (but remember, no sauce, gravy, meat or cheese.)
Then on the second weekend, if you think they have eaten that, feed them another tablespoon.
You should see the food disappear.
Don’t feed them a third time until youre really sure they have eaten the food from 2 feedings ago.
Remember to add a few bits of bedding with the food each time – about a tablespoon of moist bedding. Remember how we prepared it?
Moisture
You have to be REALLY CAREFUL about adding moisture – it is very hard to take out if you add too much.
There should be enough moisture in the new (moist) bedding and food you add each week.
If you think the farm is way too dry, just put a tablespoon of water in with the food one time and see how it looks after that.
Harvesting – Or When Your Farm Fills Up
When your worms have been living in the mini worm farm for some time, the bottle will begin to fill up with worm castings.
Remember, castings are GREAT for plants.
You will have to cut the mini worm farm open to remove the contents.
You can either place everything from the mini worm farm into a bigger worm farm, or remove the worms and any cocoons you find and make up new bedding and start a new mini worm farm.
You may have enough worms to start TWO mini worm farms. Think about sharing one with a friend – teach others about waste reduction!
Give the castings to one of the plants at home – plants LOVE castings. (Pro tip: Water it in as well.)
Olly says “Remember to RECYCLE the container when you’re finished with it.” (Avoid, Reduce, Reuse, Repair, Recycle, & only then Dispose)
