Hi Brian,
I am amazed at your knowledge and so grateful for all your shared info.
- I have read the files on fb bit can’t find info on slugs. I consistently have both little slugs and tiny cockroaches
- I read your info on putting DE on a placemat on the top layer for roaches
- Will this work for slugs also?
- Im assuming slugs may also mean my worms are too wet?
- Any advice would be great.
- Thanks so much
Hi Rebecca
No problems, it’s what I do 🙂
DE may or may not work for slugs. The conventional wisdom is that it will not as it needs to stay dry to effect insects.
A very big pro farmer I know says it will effect worms, so that conventional wisdom needs some updating.
The issue with DE is it will kill EVERYTHING and there are a lot of beneficial insects in thew worm farm.
I doubt slugs are from being too wet, slugs get into a setup and keep breeding.
They can come in on vegetable waste that you may have gotten from a supermarket to feed your worms – or from your existing garden or the garden waste.
Their eggs look like clear bubbles larger than a worm egg, like about half the size of a pea.
Remove slugs when you see them by hand and their eggs if you find them.
You can also try a beer trap, place a shallow dish in the bedding so the top of the dish is at bedding height and put an inch of old beer in there. Slugs and snails are supposedly attracted to the beer and drow (happy lol).
Just be careful you dont catch any men ! 😀
If you try the beer trap please write to me later and let me know if it worked.
Thanks for asking your question
Regards
Brian
