Hi Glenn
Mites are a natural part of worm farms & composts. They contribute to the large population of soil dwelling macro and micro arthropods found in healthy soils.
Usually an over population of mites are responding to conditions that suit them – and that dont suit the worms in a worm farm as much.
These conditions are increased acidity and moisture, usually from over feeding, not using enough (or any) bedding with every feeding, over watering (like to produce leachate on purpose), or even incorrect feeding methods like sheet feeding the whole surface, or not burying food.
